Day 13
Tuesday 16 August 2005 Today there were a wide range of options to do in our Road Book. Option 1 was to stay at Sabi River Sun to enjoy the facilities, which included playing a round of golf with hippos in the water traps! Option 2 was to do a loop in Kruger National Park from Numbi Gate to Paul Kruger Gate, whilst Option 3 saw drivers leave Sabie and head out direct to Pilgrim's Rest. Those who went to Pilgrim's Rest enjoyed the picturesque, traditional shops and buildings, including morning pancakes at Scott's Café. The rest of the trip was somewhat marred by the mist, which only allowed the Three Rondavels to reveal themselves, whilst at God's Window, the Big Man on High had definitely drawn His curtains shut. Many crews perhaps wisely dispensed with the fog and headed straight to the luxurious Sabi Sabi Nature Reserve and let the local rangers take the wheel for an afternoon game drive. Most people were fortunate enough to spot a leopard under a tree, where she was tucking into an impala in the fading light. That night everyone enjoyed a top class buffet, which featured a similar menu to the leopard's, with impala and kudu both on offer. As elephants drank from the water hole opposite the lodge's stunning sun deck, 'Uncle' Don Griffiths celebrated his birthday in style - although KT I'Anson had a bit of a fright when a hyena popped up outside her door!
